I'd read several historical books from this author (but YEARS ago) and recently came across this series. It sounded promising, and I happily dug into the story.Frankly, I was pretty disappointed.
The plot held promise, but it drug on far too long and was predictable. I'm a Christian and expected the faith element, but Dylan's constant sermonizing grew tiresome. The writing itself was OK, but it felt heavy and just overly wordy, and certain details that should have been included were glossed over (what exactly DID she find in that autopsy?). It was fun to be introduced to characters such as Dickens, Darwin & Spurgeon, but they're just brief scenes and it's not as though I learned anything new about those individuals. And finally, the Victorian details didn't seem correct - Serafina frequently goes out without anyone accompanying her, language wasn't consistent, etc.
The Kindle version had some formatting issues that slowed me down as well - lots of random paragraph breaks (often amid a conversation, so it takes a moment to figure out who exactly is speaking)

I have enjoyed the Lady Trent mystery series. I like the setting of Victorian England. This mystery was an interesting read.
This is a great read for those who appreciate the style. Would recommend the series to those interested, good work.
This book is so captivating, mysterious & you have no idea where it is going...with God's love & message all throughout it!
Very fast delivery. Loved the book
The book was good, but it was a bit of a slow read. Took me a bit to get into it. Seemed to take a while to say some things that could have been said much quicker. Overall a good murder mystery.
Not too deep. Good read for lazy evening
This book was such a delight to read! I loved the excitement and romance. What I really loved was the innocence and purity that it contains. There was no need for vulgar language or imagery which is refreshing. It is a treasure to find authors who write well without the vulgarity. I also loved how God was interwoven throughout the book, what an amazing witness! Last but not least, a pleasant surprise was a dinner party with the likes of Charles Sickens and church with Spurgeon! It was a neat idea to think the characters interacted with real people from history!
