In this very cleverly written book, you will be taken back in time from 2013 to 1903! As I started reading this, seeing that we were in modern times I wondered how the cover of the book had anything to do with the contents but I soon found out.

Charlene Page, is married to a wife beater, Dale, Dale decides to grant Charlene's request to go home for Christmas but it is not to her family but to his family's deserted 400 acre ranch where the house has been stripped etc. He just leaves her there with nothing! Why is he mad with her this time? She dared to talk to the mailman twice about his deliveries! Knocking her out before he leaves, he expects to come back in a few days to a grovelling, submissive wife.

Charlene "wakes" up to find herself still in the house but 110 years ago being cared for by Kate and her grandson Billy!

Although this is a stand alone novella, if you have read Lady in Defiance and Hearts in Defiance by this author, you will understand the connections in this book. Unlike those two books however which are very realistic, this one does involve time travel/fantasy.

This author never glosses over the "grittier" subjects of life. Why does Charlene stay with Dale? "Because if someone has to get hurt, it's better that it's me." How does Charlene change after her trip back in time? This is a Christian novel although not preachy. Will God get a hold of Charlene's life and show her that HE still loves her no matter that she turned her back on Him? I congratulate the author on tackling a difficult subject. Yes, in reality, a woman in this situation cannot go back in time to get away from her abusive husband BUT this story does show that there is hope. You do not have to stay in that situation. There is help for you.

I don't normally get into time-travel but I love Heather's writing, so I gave it a try. I really, really liked this story. Part of the reason I liked it is that it ties into characters from her "Defiance" series, but it was gritty with a really hateful "bad guy" and had a heroine you really rooted for. Of course, there is some "suspend reality" stuff, but....well, it's time travel, hello? But I felt it was minimal and I really enjoyed the story and would read it again. It's a novella, so moves at a pretty good clip, but I felt like I was told everything I needed to know, characters were fleshed-out enough for me, and the ending was good.
Heather Blanton is one of my favorite authors, and In Time for Christmas did not disappoint. Charlene is in an abusive relationship and sees no way out when God provides a miracle that shows her He wants more for her. With the twists and turns between time periods (handled very well) I could see no way that Ms. Blanton could end this book with satisfaction. Indeed, she found a way. Loved the Christmas story. It makes me really believe in Christmas miracles.
This is my first read of a Blanton book. The time travel element was artfully introduced and changed the entire tone of the book. A great contrast in safety and violence.
Spousal abuse is real. Women being pulled into a relationship by deceit is another reality. One thing I may have misunderstood . . .Dale seemed to say their marriage was on a false paper by a minister who wasn't a minister; therefore, they were not lawfully married, another of his deceptions. That may change some readers' views regarding her attraction to Billy.
I know Charlene went back to Dale, but she could have walked back into a death trap. There are shelters and legal counsel for abused women. No one should have to live in fear. Lawyer or not, Dale was not unstoppable because of his profession.

I hadn't read this author before this, but I won't hesitate to do so again. I enjoyed the book immensely. It was well written, the characters were well developed, the storyline was good, couldn't see any big problems with editing. Nothing that I could find fault with. I've read a few time travel books in the time travel genre, however this one had a little "twist". Interesting and I loved it. The fact that Charlene was a "preacher's daughter" but could still make mistakes was a real plus for me. It shows that everyone is human. The book does not "preach" at you, but instead tells a story with a lesson we all can learn. I'll definitely be reading more of Miss Blanton's books as I like her writing style. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance and time travel especially, however I think that almost everyone would enjoy it.
At first I didn't think I would like it since it talked a lot about her husband abusing her. As the story progressed I really enjoyed it and the struggle she faced and the love story that developed once she traveled through time. I agree with one of the other commenters that was kind of weird for her time traveling and falling for the great grandfather of her husband. I even cried towards the end when she finally had some good things happen to her and reunited with the man she loved. Very well written story and plot. I will read other books by the writer.
I really liked it, it felt so much more than just a novella. It was packed full of emotion and danger and hope. Great M.C.'s and Billy's grandmother was a great addition too. Dale was one piece of evil work just as the book blurb said. I know a reviewer had a problem with the fact that Charlene was a married woman following through on the attraction to another man. If I read it right, there was a question about her even really being legally married. Still, it wasn't something that Charlene or anyone else but Dale knew.
The book kept my attention and before I knew it, things were coming to a conclusion. I think that it was more about how well the book kept my involved. And not so much about how many pages were involved. Was the book real deep? No. Did I really enjoy it? Oh, Yes.
